Paradox

Why is it in education that we think the way to solve low test scores, is to test students more?

The new illiteracy

"The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn." Alvin Toffler

What really is educational reform?

After 25 years in the educational field, I am more convinced that educational reform is nothing more than political rhetoric to keep politicians in office and teachers protected in their classroom. No one REALLY wants to discuss TRUE SYSTEMIC REFORM.... that is except one person.. Seymour Papert. At a recent Consortium of School Networking (CoSN) conference (March 2005), Dr. Papert (LOGO, Mindstorms) made a statement that we needed to throw everything out and start over.. including our entire content and curriculum. I couldn't agree more. No one at any level of difference wants to make the tough decisions and state that the only way to save our educational butts is to totally remake ourselves from the ground up.
